Great performance statistics for expandable ads

by alexsavic on 28/12/2010

It seems we’re seeing more and more expandable ads these days. Perhaps this format is finally gaining momentum, pushed by advertisers seeking better performance, and publishers who are getting less resistant them perhaps due to the overall difficult market conditions.

Click-rates-expandable-adsThe statistics for using expandables are at this point overwhelming as a recent report in Internet World Business showed. In the following data we see that the click-through rates for expandables are five times higher than those of traditional display ads.

Of course apart from our own amazing expandable ads :) , here are a couple of other excellent examples we have spotted recently:

1) Microsoft places a mouse-over expandable featuring a video player to advertise their cloud computing platform (seen on Wired.com)

2) A really cool digital magazine style mouse-over expandable for DIM Beauty Lift where you can flip the pages by pulling on the folds (seen on Doctissimo.fr)

What’s your opinion about expandables ?

Update : One more really awesome example, this one recently demo’d to us at Ad Tech New York. It’s an exapndable featuring real-time video personalization – how cool is that!
